Amazon Flex: 8 Hacks to Land Better Blocks

Amazon Flex pays well — IF you can grab the good blocks. Here's how veterans win the refresh war.

Amazon Flex pays $18-25/hr base — better than most gig work. The problem? Good blocks vanish in seconds. Every Flex driver in your city is hitting refresh at the same time. Here's how to actually catch them.

The 8 hacks

  • 1. Refresh at :00 and :30. Amazon drops new blocks at the top and bottom of every hour. Be ready.
  • 2. Background refresh apps DON'T work — Amazon detects and bans them. Don't risk your account.
  • 3. Set notifications to MAX volume. Flex sends push alerts when blocks drop in your area.
  • 4. Be willing to drive 30+ minutes to the warehouse. Most drivers stay close. The further-out warehouses have less competition.
  • 5. Logistics blocks (3.5-4hr) pay better per hour than instant offers (1-2hr).
  • 6. Surge blocks ('reserved offers') appear during peak holidays. Earn 2-3x normal rates around Black Friday, Christmas, Prime Day.
  • 7. Maintain a 'Fantastic' rating. Higher ratings get first dibs on the best blocks (Amazon admits this).
  • 8. Don't cancel blocks within 45 min of start time. Drops you to 'At Risk' rating and locks you out of premium blocks.

The Amazon Flex 'sleeper' strategy

Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (10am-2pm) are the least competitive blocks of the week. Veteran drivers don't want them because the pay is base rate. But the warehouses are empty, the loading is fast, and you can knock out a 4-hour block in 3 hours. Effective rate jumps to $25-30/hr.
