Is Top Dasher Worth It? Real Math From 6 Months of Data
Top Dasher promises 'dash anytime' freedom. We tracked the actual earnings impact.
Top Dasher is DoorDash's loyalty program. The requirements: 70%+ acceptance, 95%+ completion, 4.7+ rating, 200 lifetime deliveries, 100 deliveries last month. The reward: dash anytime without scheduling, plus 'priority on higher-paying orders.'
The benefit that matters
Dash Anytime is huge in saturated markets. Without it, every good shift is fully scheduled by veteran dashers within minutes. You'd be locked out of peak hours entirely.
The benefit that's mostly a lie
'Priority on higher-paying orders' is real but small. Our test (two dashers, same market, same hours, one Top Dasher one not) showed about 7% higher earnings — not the 'huge boost' DoorDash implies.
The cost of qualifying
Maintaining 70% acceptance means accepting some bad orders ($3 for 8 miles type stuff). The accepted-but-bad orders eat into the priority bonus. Net effect: roughly break-even on earnings, BIG win on scheduling flexibility.
Should you do it?
- YES if your market is saturated and you can't get scheduled shifts.
- YES if you only dash part-time and need to fit it around another job.
- NO if your market has open scheduling year-round (smaller cities).
- NO if you only dash peak hours — the acceptance hit hurts your effective hourly.
