When Does Uber Surge? The Real Weekly Schedule (No Guessing)
Surge isn't random. It runs on a schedule. Here's the weekly map for every major city.
After 4 years of driving and tracking every surge alert with a logging app, here's the truth: surge is 80% predictable. Same days, same hours, same neighborhoods, week after week.
The universal surge schedule
- Monday-Thursday 7-9am: Commute surge in business districts. Strongest near airports, train stations, and downtown high-rises.
- Monday-Thursday 4-7pm: Evening commute. Suburbs to downtown reverses to downtown to suburbs.
- Friday 5pm-2am: Happy hour into bar close. The single most profitable shift of the week.
- Saturday 7pm-3am: Peak earnings window. Concerts, restaurants, bars all overlap.
- Sunday 9am-2pm: Brunch surge + airport returns. Underrated shift.
- Sunday 4-9pm: Airport returns from weekend travelers.
Special event multipliers
Concerts, sports games, conventions, festivals, and bad weather are the only times surge breaks pattern. Use your city's events calendar (Google '[city] events this weekend') on Sunday night and plan your week around it.
The dead zones
Tuesday 11am-2pm, Wednesday 11am-2pm, Sunday 6-9am. If you're driving these hours expecting surge, you're going to lose money. Use them for chores, sleep, or working out instead.
Schedule your driving like a job. Top earners work 4 hard shifts a week (Thu-Sun nights) and make more than full-timers who grind 60 hours of bad windows.
